A walk through the ages with History Man

We were very lucky to be able to welcome The History Man to CCCS, not once but twice, thanks to the kind contribution of our Parents' Association.

The History Man's first visit saw him spend time with Forms 6, 7 and 8 where they learned all about the Industrial Revolution. The boys had a fantastic time dressing up in outfits and trying out weaponry and gadgets from the era, including a windup system to create an electrical current which would then pass through human flesh and make your arms jump. As if that wasn't scary enough, we then learned that this was the inspiration for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein when she saw it applied to a dead frog!

Next, it was the turn of Pre-Prep who discovered all about Knights and Castles. Again, the children got the opportunity to dress up in medical clothing, including a suit of armour. The brave boys who took on this challenge soon discovered how heavy the plates of armour are and how hard it must have been for soldiers to wear this in battle. The children also had the chance to have a sword fight with History Man, try out the exciting weapons, such as the catapults and bows and arrows, and play traditional medical board games.
