TRIPS AND TOURS
We firmly believe that education should not be confined to the four walls of the classroom, and there is a busy schedule of trips which enrich our pupils’ learning. Amongst these is the annual summer French Trip, habitually involving over a third of boys in the Prep School. In recent years, boys have visited the D-Day beaches, the battlefields of the Somme, and Le Mont St-Michel. Residential trips begin in Years 3 and 4, with a three-day visit to an outdoor activity centre, placing an emphasis on team-building and fostering independence.
Pupils participate in regular trips to the many museums and monuments on our doorstep in historic Oxford, including the Natural History Museum, the Ashmolean, and the Botanical Gardens, with unrivalled access to the spaces of Christ Church itself, lying beyond the reach of most visitors. Our specialist teachers seek out opportunities for educational visits in their subjects, with recent trips including Computing (Legoland; the National Museum of Computing); Geography (field trip to Bath; walk to compare locks on the Oxford Canal and River Thames); Art (exhibition in Woodstock); Religious Studies (Oxford's synagogue and mosque) and Science (Science Oxford and the Natural History Museum). With two minibuses at our disposal, there is no limit to where we can go.
Members of all three of our choirs have the opportunity to go on tour. Recently, our Pembroke Choristers have sung in Tewkesbury Abbey and Gloucester Cathedral, and our Worcester Choristers have had a three-day tour to York Minster. The Cathedral Choir performs in Oxford, London and far beyond. Recent choir tours have taken boys to Germany, China, North America, Oman and Sweden, affording our choristers an extraordinary opportunity to perform as professionals on the international stage.
