The UN’s annual climate change conference, COP28, was held in Dubai, UAE, last week – bringing people from 197 countries together, in the hope that agreements can be reached on measures to tackle global warming. Children, from all over the world, attended to voice their deep concerns for the future in the face of climate change.
One of our pupils, Lucas in Year 3, was invited to share his thoughts at COP28. His talk was broadcast live on the UN website. You can watch his presentation in the video below.
Lucas, aged 7, said that the extreme weather will impact his ability to do things he loves, like playing football and tennis: ‘When there is a heatwave, I can’t go out to play football’.
Lucas also spoke about how climate change and wildfires will threaten wildlife across the globe. His favourite animal, the honey badger, will find it harder to forage for earthworms or access water.
The world’s 2.4 billion children are bearing the brunt of the climate crisis – an emergency that is taking lives, eroding children’s rights, and threatening their future.
Lucas concluded his presentation with an important message, ‘our earth is important and fragile. We must save our earth’.
