Prep's visit to the Tower of London

The Tower of London is one of the Capital’s most incredible gems – a tourist site like no other in the world.

On Friday, Years 5, 6 and 7 went to the Tower of London to learn more about this iconic monument.

The Tower of London was founded by William the Conqueror in 1066. It is the home of the Crown Jewels of England, which have been locked in the Tower since the 17th century.

The boys enjoyed their private guided workshop and learnt that it is one of the world’s oldest and most famous prisons, though it was not originally intended to house criminals.

The boys went onto explore the origins of the White Tower with a Norman master mason. They were impressed by the medieval armour and weaponry from around the world which were on display in the White Tower.

As well as the Yeoman Warders, the Tower of London also has a number of Guards on duty. The boys enjoyed seeing those guarding the Jewel House and the Queen’s House. A fantastic and memorable trip.
