Years 3 and 4 are an exciting time of transition into the Prep School. They wear blazers, take part in all Prep School activities and start to have more lessons with specialist teachers, all the while keeping their own teacher and form room for most lessons. This allows them the support and nurture they need whilst also allowing them to spread their wings. 

Our Year 3 and 4 boys say that the things they like best are some of their specialist lessons. They love using real tools in Design Technology, creating (and playing!) their own games in Computing, and practical Science lessons in the lab. They have a swimming lesson once a week at the University Pool, including a game of water polo each half term. In Games, they do a lot more matches against other schools, often as much as once a week, and by the end of their first term they all have opinions on which schools provide the best match teas. They can, and do, start lessons on an enormous number of instruments, with some boys taking up more than one. Every Friday they participate in our Enrichment activities with the boys in Year 5. A highlight of the year is the Year 3 and 4 musical play in which everybody participates. However, all this is possible because they know that their own teacher is there in their form room ready to welcome them back and smooth over any difficulties they may face. Their own teachers teach the Humanities as well as the core subjects of English and Mathematics, making sure that each pupil makes excellent progress from their starting point. 

Year 3 and 4 pupils are able to join in with all Prep School events, including house competitions (including all our major sports, general knowledge, poetry recitation and French numbers). Many of our boys choose to join one of our choirs at this point, and Cathedral Choristers begin to board, just during the week, in Year 4. Year 3 and 4 instrumentalists can be found in all our ensembles. We celebrate each year in Year 3 and 4 with a two-day residential trip to an outdoor education centre, a truly memorable end to a fun-filled, exciting time at school.
