Private Independent Day School for Boys 3 - 13 & Girls 3 - 7, Flexi-Boarding for Boys 8 - 13

YEARS 5 & 6 - THE MIDDLE YEARS

From Year 5, our pupils have specialist teachers in every subject. Being taught by experts enables them to stretch their learning well beyond the primary school level, and they thrive on it.

Year 5 is when we introduce Latin, alongside increasing the number of French lessons per week. At this point we also divide each class into two groups, split broadly by ability, for English and Maths. This allows for class sizes of no more than about 12, and enables each child to be taught exactly what he needs to learn next.

Our Year 5 and 6 boys are confident members of our school community, making a real contribution to everything we have to offer, whether that be academic lessons, musical ensembles, choirs, sports teams, school plays or anything else. The Cathedral Choristers become full members of the choir, participating in all services, concerts and tours.

We know our boys are able to manage all this because we are a small school: they can be independent because they know their way around the site very well, and they know and are known by all the staff. Each form has its own form tutor who provides support and nurture, and makes sure they check in with each boy every day.

At the end of the year, almost all our Year 5 and 6 boys choose to go on the week-long residential trip to Normandy, practising their French and consolidating their friendships.
